Panel 112: Reshaping Africa-exhibits (Barbara Plankensteiner)

Panel Organiser: Barbara Plankensteiner

This panel aims to discuss contemporary approaches to exhibit and represent Africa and African art in museums. Several ethnographic museums in Europe are in the course of reshaping their showrooms devoted to African cultures or have completed this process recently as is the case with the Leipzig ethnological museum. What image of Africa is reflected in these attempts and what should be changed and how should this be accomplished?
