Round Table 2: The Occult

Round Table Discussion
Friday, 5 June, 14:30-16:30
Room: HS 8

Organiser: International Africa Institute

In a recent article in Africa, Terence Ranger signalled an affinity between scholarly works on the occult and popular Western ideas about Africa as backward and superstitious. This has evoked a critical rejoinder. Is invoking the category of the occult unavoidable? What is the politics of use of this category?
