Panel 16: Medicine, Science, and the Location of Africa (Manuela Bauche / Stefan Hoffmann / Mari K. Webel)

Panel Organisers: Manuela Bauche / Stefan Hoffmann

Our panel looks at the involvement of “Africa” in colonial medical networks and scientific enterprises by exploring the ways in which both Africans and African contexts impacted the practices and discourses of scientific research. Bringing Africa, Europe, and other colonial “spaces” into a common frame of analysis with regard to medicine and sciences, our panel aims to locate “Africa” in its contemporary global context.
