Panel 34: Youth as a political factor in post-colonial Africa (Birgit Englert)

Panel Organiser: Birgit Englert

This panel is dedicated to the analysis of the social category ‘youth’ as a political factor in post-colonial Africa. Papers in this panel will explore the role of youths in the Nation-Building processes of the first decades after Independence and compare it to their political role in the last two decades which were in most countries characterised by processes of democratisation and liberalisation. Of interest is the impact globalisation processes had on political identities of youths in Africa.
