Panel 80: Religious NGOs as new agents of change in African societies (Marie Nathalie LeBlanc / Muriel Gomez-Perez)
Panel Organiser: Marie Nathalie LeBlanc / Muriel Gomez-Perez

Since the 1980s, NGOs have become central actors of international development and humanitarian help initiatives. Neo-liberal economic policies and processes of political liberalization have facilitated their emergence. Today in African societies, a growing number of NGOs have a religious character. Papers in this panel propose to examine the new social roles of faith-based NGOs.
