Abstract | China's expansion into Africa has been criticised on the grounds that it is contradicting emergent norms vis-a-vis governance as promoted by the AU and Nepad. In fact, there is a convergence of norms between Beijing's no-questions-asked policies and the neo-patrimonial modes of governance as practised by most African leaders. That helps explain why, in part, China is a popular partner for many state leaders on the continent. |
