| Abstract | This paper looks at Zambia under the three banners: The banner of independence known as 'chachacha'; the banner 'one zambia one nation', which declared Zambia as a one party state, and the banner 'the hour has come' during which stage Zambia returned to multiparty polics. It examines how through the use of cultural expressions such as drama, music, dance and traditional ceremonies, Zambia has attempted to fuse together the 73 tribes to reclaim a new national identity. Has this been possible or a mere rhetoric? |
