The University of Barcelona invites young researchers from sub-Saharan Africa to apply for 40 scholarships under the EU co-funded MAPS project on migration and forced displacement. Research focuses include climate change, vulnerability, and socio-political dynamics across 10 African countries.
Please find here the call for applications for 40 scholarships launched as part of the project ‘Action Plan on Migration and Displacement in Sub-Saharan Africa (MAPS)’, co-funded by the European Union. The call for applications is aimed at young researchers from the sub-Saharan region to apply for research grants to participate in research activities related to migration and forced displacement that will be carried out within the framework of the MAPS project.
The project aims to improve research and awareness on migration and forced displacement across sub-Saharan Africa. Special attention will be given to the effects of disasters and climate change on migration and displacement, as well as to specific vulnerable groups, such as women, children, minorities and persons with disabilities.
Migration and forced displacement will be analysed taking into account the perceptions of frontline professionals and internal migrants, and will focus on four thematic areas:
i. Peace: conflicts, borders and border policies, human rights.
ii. People: gender, age, disability and vulnerability.
iii. Planet: climate change, disasters, natural risk-related stress factors, resilience.
iv. Prosperity: education, employment, health, housing, equality, socio-spatial inclusion.
The call for researchers has been launched simultaneously by Kabale University, Dodoma University and Amref International University (AMIU) to select researchers to participate in the 10 countries (Kenya, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Uganda, South Sudan, Senegal and Guinea) where the MAPS research will be conducted.
