As Europe’s largest and most international conference with an African focus, ECAS2027 – the 11th European Conference of African Studies – will be held as a face-to-face event from 30 June-3 July 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal. The theme of the conference, hosted by AEGIS and organized locally by AEGIS member instituion Centre for International Studies - Lisbon (CEI-Iscte), is “African Prisms”. The theme aims to speak to the multiplicity of disciplines, perspectives, methods, histories, and images that shape the contemporary study of Africa. At its essence, a prism refracts light, revealing a spectrum where once appeared unity. The conference organizers are warmly inviting panel proposals from scholars of all relevant fields within African Studies.
